Technical Level Designer (GameDev)

TL;DR

Technical Level Designer (GameDev): Creating and maintaining system design elements, tools, and workflows for the dedicated level design team with an accent on gameplay elements, such as checkpoints, objectives, enemy spawns and special events. Focus on debugging and bugfixing, and identifying potential risks, looking for systemic improvement.

What you will do

• Implement gameplay scenarios using the existing toolset to forge compelling gaming experiences.
• Work directly with programmers, game designers, artists, and animators to create essential tools and solutions, handle dependencies between features, facilitate team cooperation and contribute to the vision of the game.
• Assist with prototyping and production of the technical elements for game features.
• Ensure Level Designers comply with the official metrics and technical standards.
• Serve as a technical reference for the team in relation to level design, identifying potential risks, looking for systemic improvement.
• Maintain owned project documentation and contribute to company’s knowledge base.

Requirements

• Typically 3+ years including prior experience in a tech LD or similar capacity.
• Typically at least 1 successfully shipped AAA games on PC or console.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Good problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills.
• Good understanding of creative and game development processes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

Nice to have

• Experience with 3D engines.
• Interest in the design of tools and workflows.
• Scripting experience with Python, or Lua.
• Knowledge of Maya, 3DS Max, or similar 3D package.
