TL;DR
Privacy Counsel (Legal & Compliance): Provide legal advice and support on global privacy, data protection, and information security laws, focusing on drafting and negotiating privacy terms and ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and PIPEDA. Focus on managing privacy compliance programs, supporting product development with privacy requirements, and engaging with regulatory and industry groups.
Location: Hybrid in London, UK or Toronto, Canada offices with preference for candidates able to work onsite part-time.
Salary: 130,000–180,000 CAD

What you will do
- Provide legal advice on global privacy, data protection, and information security laws and regulations.
- Draft and negotiate privacy and security terms in legal agreements.
- Monitor and advise on evolving privacy laws and support compliance programs including impact assessments and audits.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Information Security teams to align privacy requirements with business objectives.
- Engage with government, industry, and consumer groups on privacy issues.
- Support incident response activities with legal guidance.
Requirements
- Must be based in Canada or the UK with preference for candidates able to work onsite part-time in Toronto or London offices.
- 2-4 years legal experience in privacy and data protection including EU/UK GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, COPPA.
- Membership in good standing with a relevant bar (Canada, US, or UK).
- Experience drafting and negotiating data processing agreements and commercial contracts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
