Staff Data Scientist (AI): Shaping how economics and data science drive long-term value and influence product and monetization strategy, with an accent on understanding usage patterns via funnel analysis, causal analytics, and more to improve activation, engagement, and prevent churn. Focus on applying expertise in causal inference, econometrics, and behavioral analysis to answer some of the most critical questions in our business.

Location: Hybrid in Toronto, Canada with an expectation of being in the office at least three days per week.

Salary: CA$205,000 – CA$235,750 + Equity

What you will do

• Translate complex datasets into clear insights and strategic recommendations to inform product direction and business priorities.
• Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, and Executives to define KPIs and lead analytics strategy for key product areas.
• Develop forecasts for ARR, conversion, churn, and usage using economic and behavioral data.
• Frame ambiguous business problems into well-scoped analytical or modeling projects with strategic or monetization impact.
• Apply advanced statistical and econometric techniques (causal inference, time-series forecasting, survival analysis, Bayesian inference) to analyze business problems.
• Create compelling data narratives that drive senior-level decisions about product, pricing, growth, and retention.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in data science, applied economics, or a related field, ideally in high-growth tech environments.
• Proven ability to identify and measure causal business impacts using appropriate statistical techniques.
• Strong statistical modeling skills (time-series, forecasting, survival analysis, Bayesian inference).
• Fluency in Python or R and SQL; experience with large-scale data systems.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to distill complex findings for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated success influencing product, go-to-market, or commercial decisions with quantitative insights.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Prior experience in SaaS or B2B subscription businesses and/or in the legal domain.
• Familiarity with experimentation platforms (e.g., Optimizely) and BI tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau).
• Strong mentorship and leadership skills.
