TL;DR

Location: Hybrid in San Ġiljan (Malta) or Hamburg (Germany)

What you will do

  • Lead the development and maintenance of the Java backend for existing and upcoming strategy games.
  • Design, develop, and deploy high-quality, maintainable code for a distributed architecture in Google Cloud.
  • Collaborate with game designers and product leads to implement innovative player-experience features.
  • Define SLOs, implement metrics, tracing, and logging, and handle on-call incident reviews to ensure reliability.
  • Mentor other engineers through code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Contribute to technical architectural decisions for services and the game platform.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Java development with strong coding and debugging skills.
  • Proficiency in Spring, Spring Boot, JUnit5, and Gradle.
  • Experience developing and maintaining multi-server, high-load backend services and APIs.
  • Fluency in technical and business English.
  • Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
  • Proven ability to effectively integrate AI tools into development workflows.

Nice to have

  • German language skills.
  • Experience with GCP, GitHub Actions, and debugging distributed systems.
  • Knowledge of PHP, Node.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Enthusiasm for strategy games.
