Staff Software Engineer, SDK (Language Runtime)

TL;DR

Staff Software Engineer, SDK (Language Runtime): Building and optimizing Temporal SDKs and integrating them with language runtimes to execute application code durably, with an accent on reliability and developer experience. Focus on designing APIs, handling concurrent and distributed systems, and developing foundational features for agentic AI systems.

Location: Remote (Globally distributed team). Occasional travel may be required for company events (once or twice a year).

Salary: $196,000–$245,000

What you will do

• Take end-to-end ownership of new features for Temporal SDKs, ensuring reliability and developer experience.
• Design and build Temporal SDKs, integrating them tightly with various programming language runtimes.
• Develop foundational features for agentic AI systems.
• Debug issues with the community and gather feedback on SDK features.
• Write publicly-readable technical documentation for Temporal concepts and APIs.
• Support customers when SDK engineering expertise is needed.

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of experience writing scalable software.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• Fluency in multiple programming languages.
• Deep experience with concurrent programming and distributed systems.
• Experience designing APIs and writing documentation for public libraries.
• Strong technical communication skills in English.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Temporal’s programming model.
• Experience in Go, Java, Python, .NET, TypeScript, Ruby, and/or Rust.
• Experience contributing to open source projects.
• Deep knowledge of language runtimes.
