Principal Software Engineer (Elasticsearch)

Principal Software Engineer (hirify.globalsearch): Enhancing vector and keyword search functionality within hirify.globalsearch, covering the design and implementation of new search features, and resolving bugs with an accent on search relevance and contributing to Lucene. Focus on inventing new algorithms or data structures, working close to the operating system and hardware, and collaborating with a globally distributed team.

Location: Must be based in Spain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, or United Kingdom. Not available for candidates in Belarus, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Crimea Region of Ukraine, Donetsk People’s Republic, or Luhansk People’s Republic due to U.S. and other country export controls.

What you will do

• Lead initiatives within hirify.globalsearch to produce an industry-leading search engine.
• Contribute full time to hirify.globalsearch, building new search features and fixing intriguing bugs.
• Design and implement new search features and enhance existing search functionality.
• Be an expert on hirify.globalsearch search relevance, identifying and driving improvements.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java code.

Requirements

• Professional experience with search and vector databases, and used HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms and libraries on search platforms at scale.
• Strong skills in core Java, conversant in standard library data structures and concurrency constructs.
• High level of autonomy, able to take on projects and guide them from beginning to end.
• Comfortable developing collaboratively, giving and receiving feedback on code and approaches.
• Used several data storage technologies like hirify.globalsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Built things with hirify.globalsearch before.
• Worked with open source projects and familiar with source control workflow and continuous integration.
• Experience designing, leading and owning cross-functional initiatives.
