Inoutbox is developing a psychologically driven co-op horror puzzle adventure for PC, built in Unreal Engine. The project focuses on systemic and emergent enemy behavior rather than scripted encounters. Enemies are constructed from modular behavior layers, explicit sensor systems, and environmental rules such as light, observation, footsteps, and player states.
We are looking for a Senior Enemy AI Engineer with deep specialization in enemy behavior architecture. This is not a general gameplay programming role. The project is short-term, with the potential for long-term collaboration, and is fully compatible with combining this work alongside an existing job.
🚀 Responsibilities
• Design and implement scalable, modular enemy AI architecture
• Translate psychological and abstract behavior concepts into gameplay logic
• Implement complex state-driven and rule-driven enemy behaviors
• Ensure deterministic AI behavior during cutscenes and scripted moments
• Build anti-exploit systems using delays, hysteresis, and cooldowns
• Collaborate closely with game design on behavior tuning and edge cases
📚 Required Skills
• Strong experience designing enemy AI architectures with complex behavior combinations
• Deep knowledge of Finite State Machines and or Behavior Trees with custom extensions
• Experience building AI perception systems with explicit sensor separation
• Strong understanding of LOS and FOV systems with dynamic modifiers
• Ability to create debuggable and inspectable AI systems with clear states and transitions
• Solid experience working with Unreal Engine
• Strong focus on AI systems rather than scripted encounters
👍 Nice to Have
• Ability to suggest systems that improve production speed and efficiency
• Experience with multiplayer-focused AI behavior
• Experience implementing non-standard traversal systems
