Senior Backend Engineer (Cybersecurity): Building and optimizing large-scale distributed backend services for a cybersecurity platform with an accent on network protocols, performance optimization, and system scalability. Focus on designing proprietary cloud protocols, ensuring system reliability under heavy traffic, and troubleshooting complex system failures across service pipelines.

Location: Hybrid, must be based in Toronto, Canada (in office 2-3x a week)

What you will do

• Design proprietary Cloud Protocol and collaborate with Falcon Sensor teams across various platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android).
• Scale backend systems, implementing sharding, partitioning, and horizontal scaling strategies.
• Troubleshoot and pinpoint system failures across a pipeline of services.
• Ship high-quality code and ensure its smooth operation in production environments.
• Collaborate on design and build initiatives with members across multiple teams.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science or commensurate experience in data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, scalability challenges, multi-threading, concurrency, and parallel processing technologies.
• Experience with shipping high-quality software in cloud environments.
• Solid grounding in the technology of at least one cloud environment (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong design and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated passion for engineering excellence, quality, security, and performance.
• Strong cross-group collaboration and interpersonal communication skills.
• Work format: Hybrid (2-3 days in office)
• Location: Must be based in Toronto, Canada

Nice to have

• Industry experience in implementing web servers and load balancers.
• Existing exposure to Go, Scala, AWS, Cassandra, Kafka, Elasticsearch.
• Prior experience in the cybersecurity or intelligence fields.
• Contributions to the open source community (GitHub, Stack Overflow, blogging).
