Head of AI Engineering (AI): Leading and scaling ML/AI efforts for an intelligent OS by owning the architecture, quality, and roadmap for data ingestion, modeling, and context surfacing. Focus on designing and scaling ML infrastructure from scratch, leading the full ML project lifecycle, and driving output quality across chat, actions, and workflows.

Location: On-site, requiring five days a week in our SF or NYC office. Must be based in or willing to relocate to NYC or SF.

Salary: $250K – $300K • Offers Equity

What you will do

• Own the context graph, architecting and building Highlight's memory systems end-to-end.
• Research, prototype, and deploy state-of-the-art machine learning text and OCR models.
• Lead the full ML project lifecycle, including data pipelines, training, evals, deployment, and monitoring.
• Own output quality across Highlight chat, actions, and workflows to achieve industry-leading acceptance rates.
• Build and lead a world-class ML Engineering team and establish AI/ML best practices across the engineering organization.
• Stay current on knowledge representation, continual learning, and retrieval, translating insights into new features.

Requirements

• 7+ years in ML/AI engineering, with 3+ years leading teams or major technical initiatives.
• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Applied Math or equivalent experience.
• Published research (or experience shipping to production) in knowledge graphs, memory systems, retrieval, or continual learning.
• Experience working at top AI labs (e.g., DeepMind, OpenAI) or leading AI application companies (e.g., Google, Cursor).
• Strong architectural experience in designing and scaling ML infrastructure from scratch.
• Hands-on proficiency with modern ML stacks, including PyTorch, TensorFlow, RAG, vector DBs, and cloud infrastructure.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to NYC or SF.
