Junior Backend Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands; hybrid working with 2 remote work days per week

Salary: €50,000–€65,000 gross per year

What you will do

• Develop scalable backend systems for processing and analyzing complex data.
• Build and test event-driven microservices with Java and Kotlin.
• Implement data streaming with Kafka.
• Run services on GCP using Docker and Terraform.
• Contribute to new features, AI integrations, and global platform scaling.
• Improve system performance, scalability, and high availability across distributed infrastructure.

Requirements

• At least 1 year of professional backend development experience.
• Professional experience with Java or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD, and basic cloud concepts using GCP, AWS, or Azure.
• Interest in event-driven architectures and data-intensive systems.
• Completed MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Strong communication skills in English and Dutch; hybrid work in Amsterdam is required.
