TL;DR

Engineering Manager (Backend, AI/ML): Managing and mentoring an engineering team focused on building and optimizing feed recommendation user-facing services with an accent on technical debt reduction and decoupling ranking from product development. Focus on bringing Snap's content recommendation systems to surpass industry standards, collaborating with ML infra teams, and scaling high-availability, mission-critical systems.

Location: Onsite in Palo Alto, San Francisco, or Seattle, USA. Requires working in office 4+ days per week.

Salary: $229,000-$343,000 annually (USD), eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.

What you will do

  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers working on feed recommendation user-facing services.
  • Set strategy, build roadmap, and create measurable goals for content recommendation services, focusing on tech debt and decoupling.
  • Bring Snap’s content recommendation systems to surpass industry north stars.
  • Collaborate with broader core and ML infra teams on strategic roadmap and adoption.
  • Hire, grow, and retain high-performing team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field such as computer science or equivalent practical work experience.
  • 8+ years of post-Bachelor’s software development experience; or a Master’s degree + 7+ years; or a PhD + 4+ years.
  • 1+ years of experience as a manager for an engineering team.
  • Background in building high availability and mission-critical systems.
  • Experience leading large, complex technical initiatives and driving highly cross-functional efforts.

Nice to have

  • Experience with ops-heavy systems/products.
  • Experience with user-facing systems, especially in Search, Ads, or Recommendation domains.
