Backend Engineer (Cryptography)

TL;DR

Mid-Level Backend Engineer (Cryptography): Designing, prototyping, and implementing features and tools for hirify.global Vault with an accent on stability, usability, and distributed systems. Focus on applying independent judgment to solve complex technical challenges and improving architectural efficiency within a cloud-native environment.

Location: This role requires candidates to be based in the United States, specifically in or near Lowell, San Jose, or Austin (Texas, Massachusetts, California). Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, therefore candidates must have current or future ability to work without sponsorship.

What you will do

• Design, prototype, and implement features and tools, ensuring stability and usability.
• Collaborate closely with Product Design, Product Management, and other engineering teams.
• Build and ship medium-sized features, managing task expectations.
• Participate in team discussions around diagnosis, planning, and workflow improvements.
• Debug and resolve medium-level bugs in products or solutions.
• Suggest improvements to current processes and architectural design.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience as an engineer working in Golang.
• Hands-on experience developing with modern programming languages and frameworks.
• Experience working with distributed systems, particularly cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, with a focus on scalability, resilience, and security.
• Experience in reviewing and refactoring code and making suggestions that improve the codebase and product.
• Solid understanding of DevOps principles in a cloud environment.
• Ability to work in the United States without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Skills or interest in practical/applied cryptographic algorithms, Hardware Security Modules (HSMs), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Advanced Data Protection (ADP), and Encryption as a Service.
• Experience using hirify.global products (Terraform, Packer, Waypoint, Nomad, Vault, Boundary, Consul).
• Emerging experience in mentoring team members.
