Software Engineer (Gamedev)

TL;DR

Software Engineer (Backend, Gamedev): Building and optimizing large-scale, distributed microservices for managing virtual assets and progression systems with an accent on efficiency, scalability, and reliability. Focus on designing, building, and operating core platform solutions for in-game experiences across Riot’s titles.

Location: Must be based in the US, with a strong preference for candidates located in California (specifically Los Angeles County) due to compliance with local ordinances (e.g., California Fair Chance Act, Los Angeles County Fair Chance Ordinance) and US-specific benefits (401k, health insurance).

What you will do

• Partner with teams across the Player Platform organization to solve challenging technical problems.
• Design, build, and operate microservices for managing virtual assets and progression systems within Riot’s games.
• Work with teams to design, prototype, build, and ship new features.
• Be part of a rotational on-call schedule for live product and internal customer support.
• Work with technical and non-technical customers to understand their requirements and design solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's in Computer Science or a related field, or relevant professional experience.
• 2+ years of hands-on programming experience.
• Willingness and desire to learn how to build and operate highly scalable services in Java, Kotlin, and/or GoLang.
• Familiarity with distributed system architectures and with maintaining large scale cloud services.
• English: B2 required.

Nice to have

• Professional experience with Java based services.
• Experience with storage technologies such as MySQL, Amazon Aurora.
• Understand networking - HTTP down to the network layer (TCP/IP, routing, etc).
• Familiarity with Cloud Platform providers like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
