What you will do

• Translate user insights and complex business requirements into clear, usable designs.
• Define and guide the creation of prototypes and user-centred design (UCD) artefacts across end-to-end user journeys.
• Champion the GDS Service Standard, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in all outputs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including product managers, architects, developers, and testers.
• Lead the design and facilitation of workshops to elicit requirements and align stakeholders.
• Mentor other designers and contribute to the UCD community.

Requirements

• Proven track record of delivery within UK government, with deep understanding of GDS Service Manual and Service Standard assessment process.
• Ability to plan and participate in the synthesis of user research, transforming data into actionable design patterns.
• Expert knowledge and experience with Figma and digital whiteboarding tools for high-fidelity prototypes.
• Strong communication skills to evangelise user needs and bridge technical constraints with user expectations.
• Expertise in inclusive design, providing guidance and best practices.
• Understanding of HTML, CSS, and responsive principles.

Nice to have

• Experience with GOV.UK Prototype Kit and Github.
• History of mentoring and training junior or mid-weight designers.
• Willingness to contribute to the wider UCD community through blog posts or meetups.
