Tech Reporter (Cybersecurity): Providing rigorous, in-depth coverage of technology, including software development, cybersecurity, and open-source software, with an accent on breaking original stories and learning new topics. Focus on cultivating sources, generating story ideas, and delivering critical insights for a thoughtful audience.
Location: 100% remote within the US
Salary: $75,000–$85,000

What you will do
- Write regularly on consumer technology news, covering areas of expertise and general knowledge.
- Cultivate sources to develop original reporting within the tech industry.
- Collaborate on product coverage, event calendars, and story ideas with editors.
- Take photographs and edit images as appropriate for reviews and news coverage.
- Write occasional feature-length articles on in-depth topics.
- Help guide Ars’ technology coverage and integrate feedback from editors.
Requirements
- 5+ years of demonstrated writing and professional journalism expertise covering the technology industry.
- Deep expertise in at least one of the following: software development, DIY tech, cybersecurity, and/or free and open-source software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional organizational abilities.
- Willingness to work some early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as projects may require.
- Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative team player, and critical thinking ability.
- Good time management and self-starting ability for multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
