What you will do

• Oversee the front-end design strategy of Dialpad's Design System (Dialtone).
• Lead and heavily influence how Dialtone and the design system team mature to take on high-visibility initiatives.
• Advance and scale a design-focused prototyping practice to explore feasibility and evaluate AI capabilities.
• Design and build tooling such as internal utilities, plugins, and scripts to support product designers, researchers, and engineers.
• Prototype and validate new interaction models for AI-powered workflows, leveraging technologies like Model Context Protocol and integrating LLM APIs.
• Ensure quality and performance in everything you build, optimizing for accessibility, maintainability, and performance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience demonstrating exceptional design engineering fluency across modern product environments, including 3+ years of design system experience.
• Deep proficiency in the front-end stack: Vue/React/Angular/etc, HTML, CSS, Design Tokens, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Track record of designing, documenting, and evolving styles, Design Tokens, component libraries, and UI patterns.
• Experience building AI/ML-driven features, prototypes, experimental systems, or research tools.
• Mastery of state management and component-based architecture.
• Strong understanding of foundational UX principles, design heuristics, information architecture, usability, accessibility, and inclusive design practices.

Nice to have

• Experience working on AI-powered or data-intensive products in a SaaS environment.
• Experience building design tools, plugins, or creative-tech prototypes.
• Experience with creative and technical execution of animations, transitions, or micro-interactions.
• Comfort designing for multi-device ecosystems (web, desktop, mobile).
• Active engagement in the design and front-end community.
