Lead Data Engineer

TL;DR

Lead Data Engineer (Big Data): Will design, build, and support scalable data products using Hadoop, GCP, or AWS for business stakeholders, improving services through engineering excellence. Focus on process improvements, operational monitoring, automation opportunities, and security in a multi-cloud environment, contributing to the upkeep of the strategic data platform architecture.

Location: 3 days a week in office, 2 days anywhere. Available locations: Belfast, Birmingham, Glasgow, Bristol, Manchester or London

What you will do

• Design, build, and lead the development of scalable data products for business stakeholders.
• Lead continual improvement of solutions, focusing on process improvements, operational monitoring, automation, and security.
• Provide leadership to the data engineering team and contribute to the upkeep of the strategic data platform architecture.
• Collaborate with architects, designers, analysts, and other engineers to support data products.
• Improve automated testing and deployments using CI/CD pipelines.
• Spread experience and knowledge to junior engineers.

Requirements

• Experience using Hadoop, GCP, or AWS to build Big Data solutions.
• Skilled in technologies like Spark, Terraform, Kafka, Kinesis, BigQuery, Dataflow, and SQL.
• Proficient in programming languages such as Scala, Java, or Python.
• Experienced in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and applications.
• Hands-on experience with Continuous Integration and Deployment strategies.
• Understanding of Infrastructure as Code tools and experience with Confluence, JIRA, and Git.

Nice to have

• Experience with Glue, Lambda, Kubernetes.
• Enthusiastic about learning and applying new technologies.
• Ability to build new solutions and support data solutions/products.
