Applied Scientist II (AI): Develops and evaluates ML models, focusing on generative AI and large-scale model optimization for Bing and Consumer Copilot. Finding insights on large-scale data with machine learning and data mining techniques with an accent on experimental prompt tuning and advanced AI techniques. Focus on writing production-quality code, designing experiments, and wrangling petabytes of data to improve quality, efficiency, and reliability.

Location: Expected to work from the office at least four days per week if living within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S.

Salary: USD $100,600 – $215,400 per year.

What you will do

• Develop and evaluate ML models using prepared datasets and novel training algorithms.
• Find insights on large-scale data using machine learning and data mining techniques.
• Design experiments and produce actionable conclusions to improve quality and reliability.
• Write production-quality code and apply debugging best practices.
• Wrangle large amounts of data using various tools, including Python, C#, R, C++, Java, and SQL.
• Assist senior executives in making key business decisions by presenting complex data in a concise form.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years related experience OR Master’s Degree and 1+ year of experience OR Doctorate in related field OR equivalent experience.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.

Nice to have

• MS, Ph.D., or BS (with industry experience) in Computer Science, Statistics, or related fields.
• 2+ years of experience with C#/C++/Java/Python/Scala and knowledge of Data Structures/Algorithms.
• Experience in data analytics, applied machine learning, deep learning and/or related fields.
