Surfacing Lead (Animation)

TL;DR

Surfacing Lead (Animation): Responsible for the look and surface qualities of animated characters, props, and environments, guiding the production process to achieve the desired visual style and results. Focus on developing textures and shaders, digital sculpting, and maintaining workflows between Maya and Zbrush.

Location: Onsite in Madrid. Must have a Spanish work permit. Hybrid working mode, with two days remote a week.

What you will do

• Oversee the daily operations of the surfacing team, providing mentoring, management, training, and evaluation.
• Collaborate with the CG and BG teams on creative and technical issues to ensure assets are delivered to the highest standard.
• Brief surfacing artists and provide them with 2D design references to paint CG textures that are faithful to the style of the production.
• Develop shaders for CG assets and construct organic and hard surface textures.
• Ensure quality control across all asset outputs, including versioning and ongoing asset management.
• Work closely with the Asset Supe to reconcile the technical requirements of motion picture quality works.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in animation.
• In-depth knowledge of Maya and Zbrush and high proficiency in painting software like Substance Painter or Mari.
• Experience in Katana (or willingness to learn the software) and a good knowledge of photoreal and non photoreal renderers.
• Fast problem solving and implementation of solutions.
• Be adaptable, flexible and responsive to changes.
• Complete tasks within production deadlines for yourself and your team.
