Senior Back-End Engineer

TL;DR

Senior Back-End Engineer (Go): Architecting and implementing core features of a distributed and cloud-based Central Management Portal with an accent on designing and extending RESTful APIs in Go. Focus on ensuring security and code best practices across services, contributing to architectural decisions, and delivering features as part of an execution-focused engineering team.

Location: Hybrid (Remote / On-Site) in Utrecht, Netherlands. 3 days at our office at Utrecht Central Station and 2 days from home

What you will do

• Build, ship, and iterate on API endpoints and backend services in Go to turn product ideas into reliable platform features.
• Design and evolve public and internal APIs, ensuring speed, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
• Collaborate with other engineers to power user experiences in the Central Portal.
• Develop and operate backend systems using PostgreSQL, PubSub, OpenFGA, and other cloud-native services.
• Improve and maintain CI/CD pipelines and observability to help the team catch issues quickly and move fast with confidence.
• Act as a senior technical reference in the team through code reviews, mentorship, and fostering pragmatic engineering and architectural decisions.

Requirements

• Senior level experience building and owning distributed systems at scale.
• Advanced knowledge of Go service development and backend best practices.
• Willingness to work occasionally on modern web technologies and frontend frameworks.
• Experience integrating with and extending backend REST APIs.
• Experience working in a team with a continuous improvement and learning mindset.
• Demonstrated application of security best practices in public-facing services.
