Software Engineer, Backend (Monetization)

TL;DR

Senior Software Engineer (Monetization): Building and optimizing high-load backend services for Square's monetization engine, spanning subscription management, pricing, and billing. Salary: $180,000–$270,000 USD (Zone A)

What you will do

• Build core platform components for Square's SaaS monetization engine.
• Design and evolve subscription management and billing systems for sustainable scalability.
• Collaborate with Web and Mobile teams to drive SaaS adoption and conversion.
• Operate across multiple services, including a tier 0 service, ensuring performance, resilience, and consistency.
• Contribute to operational excellence and champion reliability initiatives.
• Advocate for automation to increase developer velocity and accelerate delivery.

Requirements

• 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Hands-on experience building products or services in the cloud.
• Track record of building testable, easy-to-work-with, and maintainable software.
• Strong sense of customer empathy and a drive to ship features quickly and thoughtfully.
• Curiosity and the ability to dive into unknown domains, languages, or tech stacks to solve problems.

Nice to have

• Experience designing or running product experiments, including A/B testing.
• Familiarity with OSGi frameworks or modular service architectures.
