Bioinformatics Engineer (Life Sciences)

TL;DR

Bioinformatics Engineer (Life Sciences): Designing, building, and maintaining production-ready bioinformatics workflows and data infrastructures for Life Sciences customers with an accent on Genomics and other Omics domains. Focus on translating scientific requirements into scalable, repeatable, and maintainable solutions and integrating pipelines into broader data platforms.

Location: Fully remote, globally distributed team. The company is open to hiring candidates from LatAm, North Macedonia, Portugal, or Serbia.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and deploy bioinformatics workflows using Nextflow, WDL, Snakemake, or similar.
• Define infrastructure and influence architectural decisions for pipelines.
• Migrate and refactor pipelines and data processing workloads to AWS.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering to integrate bioinformatics pipelines into broader data platforms.
• Maintain and improve existing pipelines through upgrades and optimizations.
• Provide expert bioinformatics support to clients, including troubleshooting and best-practices guidance.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Biology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience developing reproducible bioinformatics workflows using Nextflow, Snakemake, WDL, or CWL.
• Familiarity with AWS or other major cloud providers for large-scale bioinformatics workloads.
• Proficiency in Python and Shell.
• Experience using Docker and Conda for packaging and dependency management.
• English: B2 required.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience building pipelines for genomics, transcriptomics, or other NGS-based technologies.
• Experience with Omics data analysis tools (e.g., Cell Ranger, GATK, Salmon).
• Familiarity with relevant bioinformatics data formats (e.g., BCL, FASTQ, BAM/SAM).
• Experience with biological interpretation and tertiary analysis of Omics data.
• Exposure to large public genomic datasets and portals (e.g., GDC, TCGA).
