TL;DR

Member of Technical Staff (AI, RAG): Designing and building large-scale Copilot memory and personalization systems leveraging search, embeddings, retrieval, ranking, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). Focus on deepening memory with every interaction, personalizing user experiences, and making interactions feel more like working with a trusted partner.

Location: Mountain View, United States. Required to be local to the San Francisco area and work in office 3 days a week. From January 26, 2026, employees are expected to work in office at least four days a week if living within 50 miles of a Microsoft office.

Salary: USD $220,800 – $331,200 per year (for San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, IC6 level).

What you will do

• Design and build large-scale Copilot memory and personalization systems using RAG, search, embeddings, retrieval, and ranking.
• Apply subject-matter expertise in cross-product features and collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to drive project plans and deliverables.
• Hold accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers and working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation.
• Proactively seek out new knowledge and adapt to new trends and technical solutions to improve product availability, reliability, and performance.
• Navigate ambiguity and clear roadblocks to deliver solutions quickly and iteratively.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field.
• 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
• Must be local to the San Francisco area to work in office 3 days a week.
• 4+ years’ experience building APIs and creating pipelines for large-scale products.
• Experience building and deploying machine learning or large language model (LLM) applications at scale.
• Experience designing and implementing large-scale embedding, retrieval, and ranking systems.
