TL;DR

Deputy General Counsel: Leading the legal function and overseeing core legal operations across commercial, compliance, and IP with an accent on reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts. Location: Remote within the United States. Must be licensed to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction. Cannot hire in California or New York metro areas. Current office locations include Austin, TX, Denver, CO, and Tampa, FL. No work visa sponsorship is available.

Salary: $225,000 - $275,000 USD

What you will do

• Serve as the day-to-day lead for the legal function, advising internal teams and partnering with the General Counsel.
• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts, including master services, marketing, vendor, and partner agreements.
• Provide practical, solutions-oriented legal advice to cross-functional teams like Sales, Product, and Engineering.
• Advise on legal risks and regulatory considerations for product development, employee relations, and data privacy.
• Manage relationships with external counsel and legal vendors for litigation, employment, and IP matters.
• Develop and optimize internal legal processes, templates, and tools to enhance efficiency and scalability.

Requirements

• J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• 10+ years of legal experience with at least 5 years in-house supporting technology companies.
• Experience developing and negotiating SaaS agreements with a strong understanding of B2B subscription models.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional legal matters and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
• Adept at balancing legal risk with business objectives and providing actionable legal advice.
• Must be able to pass a federal, state, county background check and complete local in-person verification.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with global privacy and cybersecurity laws in SaaS environments.
• Experience building legal operations initiatives, including contract lifecycle management and automation.
