Backend Software Engineer (PHP): Building and optimizing scalable, performant, and reliable backend services for an API-first payments platform with an accent on API design, database performance, and system resilience. Location: Flexible hybrid work, based in Vilnius, Lithuania, or remote from home within Lithuania.
Salary: €4,500–€7,000 Gross (monthly)

What you will do
- Design and maintain scalable, performant, and reliable backend services.
- Collaborate with frontend, DevOps, and product teams on feature delivery.
- Optimize system performance and ensure resilience.
- Own services from development through deployment and monitoring.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural discussions.
- Implement best practices in observability, error handling, and service-level monitoring.
Requirements
- 4–7 years of professional backend development experience.
- Strong proficiency in PHP and Laravel.
- Proven experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs for asynchronous services.
- Hands-on experience with SQL (MySQL) and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Redis).
- Experience building and optimizing distributed performant systems.
- Proficiency with Git, CI/CD workflows (Azure DevOps), Docker, and AWS.
- Business-level communication fluency in English is required.
Nice to have
- Background in FinTech, payments, or regulated domains.
- Exposure to observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or other orchestration tools.
