Performance Engineer

TL;DR

Performance Engineer (DevOps): Establish and operate performance engineering for Python monolith, GraphQL API, Postgres and CockroachDB databases, and cloud infrastructure with an accent on system performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Focus on designing tooling, profiling, load testing, and mentoring engineers to optimize backend services for tens of millions of users across multiple African countries and global talent hubs.

Location: Fully remote within UK, Spain, USA, Canada, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, or Burkina Faso. Remote team members expected to travel to operational markets at least once a year.

Salary: Up to $222,700 USD plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate hirify.global’s performance engineering function, defining strategy, tooling, and processes.
• Profile and analyze production performance using observability and debugging tools to identify bottlenecks.
• Partner with backend and database engineers to implement performance improvements including code and query optimizations.
• Improve observability stack with metrics, traces, profiling, and alerting for performance signals.
• Develop and maintain load, stress, and scalability testing frameworks for backend and database workloads.
• Create automated performance testing in CI/CD pipelines to evaluate throughput, latency, and resource efficiency.

Requirements

• 7+ years experience in performance engineering, SRE, or systems optimization.
• Deep proficiency in Python performance analysis and optimization.
• Strong knowledge of Postgres performance, SQL optimization, indexing, and query execution.
• Experience with GraphQL performance and building internal performance tooling.
• Track record of measurable performance improvements and expertise in load testing and profiling.
• Strong programming skills in multiple languages (Python preferred).
• Solid understanding of networking, distributed systems, and caching strategies.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
