Salary: $160,000–$170,000 per year

What you will do

• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and ML teams to identify and evaluate new opportunities and translate findings into product recommendations.
• Support ML improvements in retrieval, ranking, and personalization algorithms.
• Lead experimentation design and analysis tailored to a two-sided marketplace.
• Build tools and dashboards for experiment reads and KPI monitoring.
• Deliver clear, executive-ready presentations on tradeoffs and business impact.
• Mentor and inspire other data scientists, elevating experimentation and model evaluation practices.

Requirements

• Location: Hybrid with in-office presence in Los Angeles, Palo Alto, or San Francisco
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in quantitative field with 5+ years in data science focused on recommender systems or personalization.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Strong knowledge of statistics, causal inference, and online experiment design.
• Experience with machine learning for recommendations and model evaluation.
• Strong product sense and ability to communicate insights effectively.

Nice to have

• Experience with modern recommendation stacks and counterfactual evaluation.
• Knowledge of Spark and MLOps concepts.
• Understanding of two-sided marketplace dynamics and guardrail design.
• Proven mentorship and cross-functional influence.
