Principal Design Director, Platform

Location: Must live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location, and work from the office at least four days per week.

Salary: $163,000–$296,400 USD per year (U.S. typical base pay range); $220,800–$331,200 USD per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area base pay range).

What you will do

• Lead a team of designers, creating clarity, generating energy, and delivering results.
• Drive product experience strategy, interaction design, creative direction, and craftsmanship for v1 products.
• Drive cross-team collaborations between your team and other designers, researchers, product managers, product planners, and developers.
• Understand the behaviors, motivations, and needs of customers to develop relevant and impactful experiences.
• Contribute to strategic product planning via experience roadmaps.
• Propose creative solutions to complex user experience journeys, drawing on your ability to map end-to-end experiences.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 7+ years experience in product or service design OR Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 9+ years experience in product or service design OR equivalent experience.
• 5+ years people management experience.
• Experience leading technical design teams and distilling complexities to create simple and beautiful design solutions.
• Resume must include a link to a design portfolio.
• Must live within a 50-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location, and work from the office at least four days per week.

Nice to have

• Master’s Degree with 12+ years or Bachelor’s Degree with 15+ years experience in product or service design, OR equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated sense of Interaction Design attuned to the fundamentals of user experience, including accessibility and inclusive design.
• Solid Visual Design skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation/storytelling skills.
• Experience designing in Figma.
