Senior Data Scientist

TL;DR

Senior Data Scientist (AI): Defining and evolving product health metrics, designing experiments, and building analytics frameworks for AI-powered Copilot experiences with an accent on causal inference, statistical analysis, and scalable data pipelines. Focus on diagnosing product and model performance, improving telemetry, and translating product questions into measurable hypotheses to drive data-informed decisions.

Location: Starting January 26, 2026, employees located within a 25-mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in Beijing, China are expected to work from the office at least four days per week.

What you will do

• Define and evolve product health metrics for Copilot experiences (e.g., quality, engagement, retention).
• Design and execute A/B tests and quasi-experimental analyses to evaluate feature impact.
• Build robust causal inference and statistical analysis frameworks.
• Develop scalable data pipelines, monitoring dashboards, and self-service analytics.
• Diagnose product and model performance issues and propose actionable solutions.
• Communicate insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in a related field AND 5+ years data-science experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience applying data science/analytics to solve complex product or business problems.
• Solid hands-on skills in Python and SQL; experience with large-scale data processing and analytical workflows.
• Solid foundation in statistical modeling, experimentation design, hypothesis testing, and causal inference.
• Experience building metrics systems, dashboards, and decision frameworks for product development.
• Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal) are required.

Nice to have

• Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years data-science experience OR Master’s Degree with 5+ years OR Bachelor’s Degree with 7+ years.
• Experience in AI product analytics, conversational AI, LLM evaluation, ranking/retrieval systems, or recommendation/search systems.
• Familiarity with Copilot-like interaction data and quality frameworks.
• Experience with cloud and big data platforms (Azure preferred), including production-scale telemetry and monitoring.
