What you will do

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable backend systems powering an AI-driven legal platform
• Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions
• Work on backend challenges including data processing, infrastructure, and ML model integration
• Drive development of backend frameworks and libraries to enhance product offerings
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to building a world-class engineering culture
• Own complex engineering projects from inception to deployment ensuring performance and security

Requirements

• Location: Must work hybrid with 3 days per week in Toronto office
• Extensive backend development experience with distributed systems
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or C++ with clean, production-ready code
• Experience building scalable, reliable systems and APIs in high-performance environments
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure technologies like AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills with leadership potential

Nice to have

• Experience with AI/ML systems, especially generative AI or legal tech applications
• Background in data science, machine learning, or large-scale data processing pipelines
• Previous experience scaling backend systems in fast-growing startups
