Salary: $214,000–$289,500 (Bay Area California) or $201,000–$272,000 (Southern California)

What you will do

• Lead and influence the technical direction of API lifecycle management including traffic routing, authentication/authorization, and rate limiting.
• Design, develop, and maintain a highly available, scalable, and secure API Gateway platform.
• Partner with product managers, architects, and engineering teams to define and deliver platform capabilities.
• Ensure high reliability, performance, observability, and operational excellence.
• Mentor engineers across the organization and contribute to open source initiatives.
• Stay ahead of emerging technologies and architectural patterns in API and traffic management.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• Experience building and scaling API Gateway platforms or reverse proxy solutions (e.g., Envoy, NGINX, Kong, Apigee, AWS API Gateway).
• Deep understanding of Layer 4/7 networking and traffic management concepts.
• Strong experience with Kubernetes, service mesh technologies, and microservices architectures.
• Proficient in Go, Java, or C++ for high-performance distributed systems.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience with API security standards like OAuth2, mTLS, OpenID Connect, and JWT.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
• BS/MS in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent work experience.
