We’re hiring a DevOps Engineer to support the development of a new core banking platform for a fintech startup operating as an Authorised Payment Institution in the UK. You will contribute to cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, and reliability engineering — helping to balance fast delivery with long-term scalability and quality, working closely with senior engineers.
YOU WILL

• Act as the primary point of contact for developer requests.

• Triage, troubleshoot, and resolve issues across build, deploy, and runtime contexts.

• Operate and support GCP services, including Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Storage, SSL/certificates, IAM, Pub/Sub, Monitoring, and Memorystore.

• Manage infrastructure with Terraform and configuration with Ansible.

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions with safe rollout and rollback capabilities.

• Administer Linux systems; define and maintain monitoring/alerting, and reduce alert noise.

• Handle Cloudflare (DNS, Workers, Routes, WAF).

• Manage networking components, including VPNs, firewalls, VPCs, IdP/SSO, and IAM policies.

• Operate PostgreSQL and MySQL instances: perform backups and restores, optimize performance, and conduct fault diagnosis.

• Automate operational tasks using Python and/or Bash.

• Create and maintain operational documentation and runbooks.

• Participate in on-call rotation.

• Suggest and build automations to reduce toil and improve reliability.

ABOUT YOU

• Proficient with GCP services: Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, Storage, IAM, Pub/Sub, Memorystore, SSL.

• Experienced with Terraform and Ansible.

• CI/CD experience using GitHub Actions.

• Linux administration and monitoring/observability tools experience.

• Experienced with Cloudflare: DNS, Workers, Routes, WAF.

• Networking and access control experience: VPN, VPC, firewalls, IdP/SSO, IAM.

• Operational experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL: backups, restores, performance tuning, fault diagnosis.

• Strong scripting abilities in Python and Bash.

• Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code).

• Strong communication skills and dependable remote execution.

NICE TO HAVE

• Kubernetes experience: deployment, scaling, service mesh.

• Familiarity with microservices architecture: service boundaries, API patterns, distributed systems.

• KrakenD API gateway experience.

• Ability to read/debug Node.js applications.

• Security and compliance exposure: PCI DSS, vulnerability management.

• Experience with observability stacks.

• Cost optimization and FinOps practices.

• GitOps or declarative deployment workflows.
