Software Engineer - Learned Trajectory Machine Learning Engineer (Autonomous Vehicles)

Location: Foster City, California, United States; hybrid workplace

Base salary: $189,000–$270,000 per year, excluding RSUs, stock appreciation rights, and any sign-on bonus.

Zoox is developing a fully autonomous vehicle fleet and the supporting mobility ecosystem for urban environments at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and design.

What you will do

• Develop deep learning models using imitation learning and reinforcement learning to generate driving plans for autonomous vehicles.
• Design techniques to estimate driving-plan quality across safety, progress, comfort, and related dimensions.
• Use large-scale machine learning infrastructure to develop and evaluate new solutions.
• Build metrics and analysis tools to identify errors and measure system improvements.
• Collaborate with Perception, Planning, Simulation, and Systems Engineering teams on autonomous driving in complex urban environments.

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or a related field.
• Experience training and deploying transformer-based architectures and reinforcement learning systems.
• Experience with production machine learning pipelines, including dataset creation, training frameworks, and metrics pipelines.
• Fluency in C++ or Python with a basic understanding of C++.
• Extensive programming and algorithm design experience, together with strong mathematics skills.

Nice to have

• Machine learning or robotics publications in conference or journal venues.
• Experience with prediction, autonomous vehicles, or robotics.
