Senior Data Engineer

Location: Hybrid role based in Dublin, Ireland

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain custom ETL/ELT and ingestion jobs for new client data sources.
• Define batch, API, and event-driven integration patterns and ensure data arrives in the required structure and latency.
• Work with client technical and data teams on source access, data contracts, data quality, and stakeholder management.
• Orchestrate, monitor, and troubleshoot pipelines, including fast failure resolution and incident handling.
• Document integrations, data flows, and dependencies; advise on integration scope and effort during planning.
• Mentor associate data engineers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or data integration, ideally including a senior or lead role.
• Degree in computer science, software engineering, data engineering, or a related field.
• Experience in financial services, gaming, or another regulated sector, including consent and data protection requirements.
• Experience working with client technical teams and managing key stakeholders.
• Strong ETL/ELT and pipeline design skills across batch and streaming, including idempotent loads, backfills, failure recovery, and common integration patterns.
• Strong Python for production ETL, testing, and maintainable code, plus API and REST integration experience.
• Advanced SQL with query performance tuning; MySQL experience including schema design, query tuning, and operational database extraction.
• ClickHouse or another columnar database experience, including ingestion, table engines, and troubleshooting memory and insert performance.
• Hands-on Snowflake and/or Databricks experience.
• Kafka experience with producers, consumers, offsets, partitions, retention, replay, and deduplication.
• Experience orchestrating pipelines with Dagster or Airflow; AWS experience with S3, IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, and CloudWatch.
• Experience running and debugging jobs and CronJobs on Kubernetes, including EKS or similar, and working in Linux environments.
• Experience designing monitoring and alerts in Datadog or a similar tool.
• Strong incident handling skills, including triage, root cause analysis, and clear write-ups.

Nice to have

• Experience with a CDP, CRM, or marketing automation platform.
• Experience with file-based integrations, including SFTP, file validation, and reprocessing.
• Experience with CI/CD, ideally Bitbucket Pipelines.
