Junior Data Scientist (NLP)

Location: Bucharest, Romania; hybrid workplace

What you will do

• Develop and evaluate NLP and machine learning models for text classification, clustering, entity recognition, and semantic search.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis and create visualizations to identify patterns and trends.
• Design and build components of the receipt-coding framework that enrich consumer panel purchase data.
• Participate in Agile planning and ceremonies, define tasks, share findings, raise risks and uncertainty, and challenge priorities.
• Present achievements to the team and broader audiences through sprint reviews and system demos.
• Improve methods, tools, and data science best practices while learning through cross-team projects.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of professional experience in data science, applied machine learning, or a related field; internships, academic projects, and research experience are welcome.
• Solid foundation in statistics, probability, and basic machine learning techniques.
• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, and matplotlib.
• Interest in and some exposure to NLP techniques, including tokenization, embeddings, transformers, or classical NLP methods.
• Familiarity with Python best practices and coding standards.

Nice to have

• Exposure to PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Familiarity with Hugging Face Transformers, spaCy, or NLTK.
• Academic or Kaggle project experience involving NLP or machine learning.
• Basic understanding of AWS, GCP, or Azure for data and machine learning workloads.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative coding practices.
