Open Source Software Engineer (Android/AOSP)

Location: Amsterdam-based position with a hybrid working model

What you will do

• Define and implement engagement strategies for open-source communities supporting hirify.global Android devices.
• Lead open-sourcing and upstreaming activities, especially toward AOSP and community projects such as LineageOS.
• Build and maintain engineering partnerships with open-source communities, Android partners, and software suppliers.
• Explore community onboarding opportunities and facilitate sharing sources and solutions.
• Guide internal teams and suppliers on open-source best practices, requirements, and business relevance.
• Contribute to maintenance, security, performance, testing, and software quality across hirify.global and partner Android systems.

Requirements

• Degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a similar field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in the Android ecosystem.
• 5+ years of experience with open-source development methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of core Android stacks and C/C++, Rust, Java, and Kotlin.
• Experience with unit and integration testing, code review tools, and continuous integration.
• Familiarity with shell scripting, Python-based process automation, and Git.
• Proficiency with GNU/Linux operating systems.
• Proficient spoken and written English is required; English is the primary internal and partner communication language.

Nice to have

• Strong open-source experience in other projects and communities.
• Experience engaging with the Android and mobile ODM ecosystem and its ways of working.
