TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Aerospace) (Spacecraft Hardware): Designing, building, and testing spacecraft components, assemblies, and mechanical ground support equipment with an accent on CAD, structural analysis, manufacturability, and hardware verification. Focus on owning assemblies through fabrication and qualification, investigating manufacturing and test anomalies, and coordinating mechanical interfaces across multidisciplinary teams.

Location: On-site in Burlingame, California, United States

Salary: $132K–$178K annually, plus equity; final level and offer depend on qualifications and experience.

Company

hirify.global develops Pulsar, a low-Earth-orbit satellite infrastructure platform providing real-time, centimeter-level positioning and navigation.

What you will do

  • Own assigned spacecraft components and assemblies from requirements through design, procurement, build, verification, and production support.
  • Design flight hardware and mechanical ground support equipment; release CAD, drawings, bills of materials, interface definitions, GD&T, tolerance analyses, and configuration-controlled revisions.
  • Evaluate strength, stiffness, packaging, manufacturability, assembly, cost, and schedule using engineering calculations and structural FEA.
  • Build prototypes, fixtures, and functional test setups; use measurements and test results to improve designs.
  • Support assembly, integration, qualification, vibration and thermal-vacuum testing, and investigation of manufacturing, integration, and test anomalies.
  • Coordinate mechanical, thermal, electrical, payload, supplier, technician, and integration-and-test interfaces while tracking risks and delivery commitments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of professional mechanical hardware development experience, including ownership of components or assemblies.
  • Experience carrying hardware through detailed design, fabrication, assembly, and physical testing, with the ability to explain engineering decisions and results.
  • Solid fundamentals in load paths, joints and fasteners, materials, thermal and optical properties, machining, sheet metal fabrication, GD&T, and tolerance analysis.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering drawings using SolidWorks or a comparable platform, including controlled release and revision processes.
  • Ability to substantiate designs with engineering calculations and working knowledge of structural FEA, including loads, constraints, and basic model-result checks.
  • Hands-on experience using tools, assembling hardware, developing test setups, and troubleshooting discrepancies between designs and actual hardware.
  • Ability to manage defined projects independently, communicate technical issues clearly, collaborate across disciplines, and incorporate design feedback.
  • For this U.S. role, applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, or other protected individuals under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

Nice to have

  • Spacecraft hardware, launch-environment, or other high-reliability hardware experience.
  • Experience with deployment or separation mechanisms, precision assemblies, electronics packaging, or spacecraft handling and lifting equipment.
  • Experience supporting vibration, shock, or thermal-vacuum testing and applying test results to hardware improvements.
  • Experience transitioning designs into repeatable production, resolving supplier issues, or improving assembly and inspection processes.
  • Experience owning a small subsystem, working in a cleanroom, or supporting qualification and acceptance testing of flight hardware.
  • Experience in every listed hardware category is not required; depth of engineering work and ability to apply experience to new problems are valued.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment in an on-site engineering role.
  • Compensation includes equity.
  • Inclusive workplace committed to diversity and equal employment consideration.
