Principal Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Vienna, Austria; hybrid working.

Salary: Minimum EUR 75,000 gross annually; the actual package and possible variable elements depend on qualifications and experience.

hirify.global is an AI-native company building real-time supply-chain risk visibility products for companies and a new public-sector resilience product for Europe.

What you will do

• Own major areas of the public-sector product end to end, including architecture, UX, frontend, backend, infrastructure, deployment, and operations.
• Define product capabilities and engineering decisions for an early-stage product with substantial ambiguity.
• Drive an agent-first workflow by writing specifications, setting architecture, and reviewing changes produced by coding agents.
• Maintain reliability, security, and maintainability while shipping quickly.
• Operate and evolve Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, identity, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and monitoring.
• Work with public-sector users and partners, ship an initial change in the first week, and take long-term ownership of a system area.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience building, shipping, and operating complex full-stack web applications; candidates with fewer years but substantial relevant work may also apply.
• Expertise in TypeScript and the web engineering ecosystem, including browsers, HTML, CSS, APIs, backend services, React, and Node.js.
• Experience across infrastructure and DevOps, including Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, deployment, and production operations.
• Strong fundamentals in system design, data modelling, testing, security, and running software in production.
• Ability to make early product and user-interface decisions and work across the full stack.
• Deep fluency in agentic coding, including understanding agent capabilities and limitations and creating specifications, tests, architecture checks, and monitoring.
• Ability to define and drive ambiguous problems with users and partners through launch and beyond.
• Fluent written and spoken English and a valid work permit for Austria.

Nice to have

• Experience with Java, Kotlin, Go, Rust, or Python, with judgement about when to use another language.
• Experience with Electron, cryptography, or LLM-based agents and products.
• A degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
