Senior Systems Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Hybrid onsite in Mojave, California, United States. Applicants must be a U.S. Person and eligible to obtain any required ITAR/EAR export authorizations.

Salary: $100,000–$1,500,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Lead technical design, development, integration, and testing of propulsion systems and vertical takeoff and landing vehicles.
• Develop concept-of-operations materials, mission and system requirements, launch vehicle requirements, technical budgets, and design configurations.
• Conduct trade studies, fault management, interface control, verification and validation planning, and technical risk mitigation.
• Prepare technical documentation and reports, and lead technical presentations and demonstrations during concept and engineering development.
• Support technical proposals for mission and technology development opportunities.
• Work with engineering teams, partners, and customers to resolve technical risks and system or customer requirements.

Requirements

• Experience in multiple areas including liquid-propellant rocket systems, propulsion, avionics or electronics, software development, embedded systems, systems engineering, systems integration and test, verification and validation, or configuration management.
• Experience as a technical lead across the full lifecycle of design, development, manufacturing, testing, and operations, including hands-on hardware experience.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience interfacing with internal and external organizations.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field plus 5 years of relevant launch vehicle mission experience, including leadership roles. A relevant advanced degree may substitute for equivalent experience.
• Must be a U.S. Person: a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3).
• Must be eligible to obtain required export authorizations under ITAR and EAR.

Nice to have

• Experience developing liquid-propellant rocket propulsion systems from feasibility studies through flight and mission operations.
• Knowledge of propulsion-system manufacturing and verification and validation plans.
• Experience in AS9100 or ISO9000 environments.
• Experience in agile environments using Confluence and Jira.
• Experience with requirements-management tools such as Jama.
• Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 450, AFSPCMAN 91-710, or ARP4761.
• Familiarity with structural engineering, system verification and validation planning, reliability engineering and analysis, and range safety compliance.
