Lead Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid at hirify.global Headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

What you will do

• Take technical ownership of software delivery within the core engineering team and coordinate implementation across Backend, Frontend, Mobile, and QA.
• Translate product and business requirements into technical approaches, implementation plans, service boundaries, APIs, data models, integrations, and asynchronous workflows.
• Design and implement backend services with TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, and AWS serverless and managed services.
• Review architecture, designs, pull requests, and high-risk implementation decisions while identifying technical risks early.
• Establish engineering standards and support engineers through mentoring, pair programming, technical design sessions, and code reviews.
• Improve testing, observability, monitoring, security, operational readiness, documentation, tooling, automation, and AI-assisted engineering practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience at Lead or strong Senior / Tech Lead level.
• Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js, plus production experience with NestJS, Express, Fastify, or a comparable Node.js framework.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, modern backend design, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Significant hands-on AWS experience, including production systems using services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS, EventBridge, Step Functions, Cognito, and DynamoDB.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code experience, preferably with AWS CDK and/or Terraform.
• Strong database knowledge across document and relational models, ideally including MongoDB / DocumentDB, DynamoDB, and MySQL / Aurora.
• Good understanding of REST, OpenAPI, WebSockets, asynchronous processing, retries, idempotency, distributed workflows, and failure handling.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, multi-environment deployment pipelines, observability, monitoring, application security, authentication, authorization, performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Proven mentoring experience, strong Git and pull-request practices, and the ability to communicate with Product, QA, Architecture, and business stakeholders. Healthcare technology or healthcare services experience is strongly preferred.

Nice to have

• AWS certification, particularly Solutions Architect Associate or Professional.
• Lead Engineer experience in a multi-team environment and experience with distributed or external development teams.
• Experience with Datadog, CloudWatch, Elastic Stack, Angular, mobile development, Redis / Valkey, OpenSearch / Elasticsearch, Playwright, or Jest.
• Experience with high-scale or high-availability systems, production operations, incident resolution, and architecture documentation such as diagrams, ADRs, and technical designs.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted or agentic software engineering tools, healthcare, fintech or other regulated environments, and GDPR-related privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
