TL;DR
Site Reliability Engineer - Vice President (Kubernetes/AWS): Keeping Kubernetes-based services reliable in AWS through production troubleshooting, incident leadership, observability, and automation with an accent on distributed-systems diagnosis, SLOs/SLIs, and safe rollouts. Focus on designing reliability standards, operating OpenTelemetry and monitoring infrastructure, and building remediation tooling that reduces alert noise and recurring failures.

Location: Lisbon, Portugal; four days in the office and one remote day on Friday.

Company

hirify.global provides a platform for its client base, with production services running on Kubernetes in AWS.

What you will do

  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex production incidents across applications, containers, Kubernetes, and AWS, leading investigations through root cause.
  • Define reliability and operability standards covering resource sizing, health checks, scaling, rollout safety, monitoring, and service onboarding.
  • Lead high-severity incidents, postmortems, systemic corrective actions, and reliability improvements with measurable follow-through.
  • Build runbooks, diagnostic tooling, automated remediation, and reusable Terraform-based monitoring standards.
  • Define and iterate SLOs and SLIs, operate OpenTelemetry pipelines, and maintain monitoring infrastructure including Helm, ArgoCD ApplicationSets, Kinesis, Lambda, and Prometheus.
  • Coach engineers through reviews, game days, and knowledge sharing, and participate in on-call rotations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in SRE or related roles, with technical seniority across multiple services and teams.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience running and troubleshooting production workloads on Kubernetes, including scheduling, networking, scaling, and rollouts.
  • Ability to independently diagnose complex distributed-system failures across application, configuration, resource, networking, and scaling layers.
  • Strong Linux and networking fundamentals, including troubleshooting below the container layer.
  • Strong production AWS experience, including cloud networking and access controls affecting Kubernetes workloads.
  • Strong incident-response skills, including leading retrospectives or postmortems and implementing systemic fixes.
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code skills, preferably Terraform, with reusable modules or monitors-as-code experience and the ability to build automation and diagnostic tooling.
  • Experience defining SLOs and SLIs and using observability tools such as Prometheus/Grafana, New Relic, Splunk, or similar to identify root causes.
  • Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to influence engineering teams through standards, tooling, and practical guidance.

Nice to have

  • Kubernetes certification such as CKA or CKS, or equivalent depth.
  • Experience improving rollout safety and autoscaling for Kubernetes workloads.
  • Familiarity with Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB, and distributed-system failure modes.
  • OpenTelemetry instrumentation experience at scale.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hybrid work arrangement with four office days and remote work on Fridays.
  • Full-time employees receive competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and equity.
  • Healthcare includes 100% employer-paid health and dental insurance.
  • Generous paid time off is provided.
