Lead Software Engineer (Game Play / Engine)

Location: Billund, Denmark. Hybrid work is available from the specified workplace, with the option to work from home up to two days per week.

What you will do

• Define and drive the technical architecture of high-performance core engines and software platforms for interactive play experiences.
• Lead the design and implementation of reusable engine capabilities using physical features such as motion, sound, and colour detection.
• Own the engine architecture, establish its foundations, guide major technical decisions, and ensure reliability, scalability, and future readiness.
• Translate strategic objectives into technical roadmaps, communicate trade-offs and risks, and align delivery with stakeholders.
• Provide technical direction, review critical designs and code, and raise engineering standards.
• Improve performance, resource usage, processes, and workflows in constrained systems.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading and building reusable platforms and components as foundations for scalable play experiences.
• Strong experience providing technical leadership to software engineering teams.
• Demonstrated experience resolving complex architecture and performance challenges affecting a platform.
• Strong software development skills and fluency in C++/C.
• Experience with Domain Specific Languages (DSL).
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery across multiple components, manage architectural dependencies, and resolve cross-team engineering issues.
• Strong experience using task management software such as Jira.
• Excellent communication skills, including explaining complex technical decisions and aligning engineers and stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with connected toys, wearables, IoT, or other hardware-software products, including BLE, NFC/RFID, sensors, or low-power devices.
• Experience with game engines such as Unity, Unreal, or Godot, and with designer-facing tools and data-driven content pipelines.
• Audio programming or interactive sound design experience.
• Experience designing play for children, including playtesting with children and working with child safety and privacy regulations.
• Passion for hirify.global play and curiosity about inventing new forms of play.
