Senior SRE/Observability Engineer (Data Platform)

Location: Remote, based in Almaty, Kazakhstan; office and hybrid work formats are also available.

What you will do

• Develop end-to-end monitoring for infrastructure stacks including Trino, Kubernetes, databases, Apache Ozone, and Hadoop.
• Implement automatic DORA metrics collection and create high-level service health and uptime dashboards.
• Audit existing metrics and close monitoring gaps across Kubernetes, databases, and distributed storage systems.
• Optimize and update Alertmanager rules to detect incidents and anomalies before they affect users.
• Act as the central monitoring expert, supporting dashboard configuration and alerting while reducing routine support work for team leads.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of DevOps/SRE experience and at least 5 years of total IT experience.
• Experience as an SRE or monitoring engineer, with an emphasis on infrastructure reliability rather than product feature development.
• Experience with Python; Go or JavaScript is a plus.
• Deep knowledge of Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager, including complex PromQL queries and alert-fatigue reduction.
• Practical understanding of SLI, SLO, SLA, error budgets, and DORA metrics collection methodology.
• Experience with containerization using Kubernetes and with databases, plus the ability to understand metrics from distributed systems such as Hadoop and Trino.
• Ability to translate abstract system behavior and logs into clear, structured, actionable metrics.
• Experience with ClickHouse, Vertica, StarRocks, or Greenplum.
