Project Technical Lead (Automotive Equipment)

Our client - a Russian engineering division of a European company (design and production of equipment for electrical connection assembly) for the European and Chinese automotive and auto-component industries - requires:
PROJECT TECHNICAL LEAD

Role – an engineer who thinks like a Project Technical Lead: sees the entire task, proposes solutions, assesses risks, plans prototypes, and assigns clear tasks to engineers for execution. A professional who can go through the entire process – from a sketch on paper to working equipment on the production floor.

Project Technical Lead will:
- Search for technical solutions for project tasks.
- Develop project in stages: first sketches and concept, then a plan – what are the risks, what to check, how to test.
- Clarify requirements with international customers (communication in English directly).
- Break down the concept into tasks for engineers.
- Participate in the commissioning of the designed equipment (often remotely) and support it until it reaches serial production mode.
- Collect feedback after assembly and from production, and make adjustments to documentation.
- Systematize knowledge about existing equipment – write instructions, assembly and testing procedures, including in English.

Requirements:
- Higher technical education.
- Experience as a Lead/Senior Design Engineer or Project Technical Lead/Manager.
- Technical foundation in mechanical processing: the specialist must understand how parts are manufactured in small and medium sizes.
- Knowledge of three key technologies:
Milling – understanding cutting parameters, stiffness limitations, and issues with thin-walled parts.
Grinding – finishing for high precision and surface quality.
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) – material removal by electrical discharge.
- Hands-on experience and equipment setup: desirable experience operating mechanical processing equipment or at least active participation in setting up complex equipment. - Experience in developing assemblies using positioning systems based on ball screws (ШВП) and servo motors.
- Understanding of DfM (Design for Manufacturability) principles.
- Experience conducting DFMEA and managing risks.
- Ability to explain complex ideas – with a hand-drawn sketch.
- Upper-Intermediate English: fluent technical communication (correspondence, discussing requirements, explaining concepts). The project lead will communicate directly with internal customers worldwide.
- Knowledge of and experience with SolidWorks.
- Readiness to complete a short test assignment at one of the stages.
Terms & Conditions:
- formal employment contract according to RF Labor Code
- 9am to 6pm, hybrid or fully in-office (St Petersburg)
- 3-month probation period
- only candidates from St. Petersburg or Moscow will be considered
- compensation of up to RUR250K net per month
