GIS/Remote Sensing and MRV Specialist (Forestry)

Location: Jakarta, Indonesia; onsite. Nationality of Indonesia is required.

hirify.global supports the Government of Indonesia in strengthening forest monitoring, forest inventory, geospatial data management and measurement, reporting and verification systems.

What you will do

• Manage GIS databases, geodatabases, spatial datasets and thematic layers for NFMS, NFI 2.0, MERANTI and hirify.global forestry activities.
• Provide GIS support for NFI 2.0, including cluster and plot management, sampling, field planning, mapping and spatial analysis.
• Process and analyse satellite imagery and other remotely sensed data for forest and land-cover monitoring, change assessment, biomass and carbon analysis, and MRV.
• Integrate NFI field data with GIS, satellite imagery, LiDAR and other datasets, supporting interoperability between NFI 2.0, SIMONTANA and related forest monitoring systems.
• Produce and quality-check maps, spatial analyses and other GIS/remote sensing outputs, and document datasets and analytical workflows using tools including SEPAL and Google Earth Engine.
• Provide technical assistance and knowledge sharing to national consultants, government counterparts and multidisciplinary project teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geodesy, Geomatics, Forestry, Environmental Science or a related field.
• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in GIS, remote sensing, spatial data management and/or forest and land monitoring.
• Working knowledge at level C of written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia.
• National of Indonesia.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS and/or QGIS and spatial data management.
• Practical experience with remote sensing and satellite image analysis, including processing and analysing satellite imagery and geospatial datasets.
• Good understanding of spatial databases, geodatabases, metadata and geospatial data standards.
• Ability to integrate and analyse data from different spatial and non-spatial sources.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of Google Earth Engine, SEPAL or comparable platforms.
• Knowledge of forest inventory, NFMS and MRV.
• Basic programming or automation skills using Python, JavaScript or similar.
• Experience in forest monitoring, forest inventory, land-cover classification, MRV, REDD+ or related applications.
• Experience working with government institutions, international organizations or development projects.
• Experience providing technical support to multidisciplinary teams and consultants.
