What you will do

• Build and ship the rebuilt digital and cyber playbook for councils in iterative phases.
• Implement prioritised decision-support tools, adaptable frameworks and mechanisms for councils to contribute their own learnings.
• Develop and customise WordPress themes, templates, blocks, plugins and content structures in collaboration with interaction and content designers.
• Help assess the target platform and apply GOV.UK Frontend and Design System patterns where supported.
• Build security into the product through secure configuration, plugin and dependency management, assurance evidence and testing.
• Maintain automated unit, integration and accessibility tests, a repeatable deployment pipeline, documentation and handover sessions.

Requirements

• Active or current SC clearance.
• Strong commercial WordPress development experience, including PHP theme and plugin development, custom post types and content structures.
• Experience securing and maintaining WordPress sites through updates, plugin management, hardening and backups.
• Experience building accessible interfaces meeting WCAG 2.2 AA.
• Experience with secure development practices, including OWASP, authentication, secrets management and dependency management.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams with clear written communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with GOV.UK Frontend, the GOV.UK Design System and the Prototype Kit.
• Experience delivering digital services in UK central or local government, including service assessments.
• Experience with content-driven or CMS-style products, or user-contributed content with moderation.
• Experience migrating sites or content between platforms.
• Experience handing products over to permanent in-house teams.
• Familiarity with the GOV.UK Service Standard and the Technology Code of Practice.
