Senior Intervention Officer – Sustainable Land Use

Location: Primarily Abuja, Nigeria, with frequent travel to states in Northern and Southern Nigeria.

What you will do

• Lead and manage Sustainable Land Use and Forestry interventions, ensuring delivery against programme milestones, commitments, outcomes, and FCDO priorities.
• Analyse forest-risk agricultural commodity markets and subsectors, identify intervention opportunities, and adapt strategies to changing conditions.
• Manage partner relationships, support technical assistance and funding, and monitor and evaluate intervention impact.
• Develop business plans, assess investment potential and readiness, and support private-sector investment in sustainable value chains.
• Coordinate with government, civil society, community-based organisations, private-sector stakeholders, GESI, MEL, and programme teams.
• Provide project management support including due diligence, budgeting, monitoring, reporting, contracting, procurement, MoUs, ToRs, field visits, and knowledge products.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Economics, Agribusiness, Land Use, Natural Resources and Climate, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in similar work, market systems development, or designing bottom-of-the-pyramid models, funded by FCDO or other large donor agencies, including management experience.
• Experience with agricultural or forest commodities associated with deforestation, such as palm oil, cocoa, or timber products.
• Experience in market and supply-chain sustainability.
• Proven quantitative, conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders and facilitating complex processes across civil society, the private sector, and government.
• Ability to manage multiple partners and significant client interaction.
• Understanding of private-sector investor mentality and needs, including how to shape projects and promote private-sector investment.
• Experience delivering high-quality results against tight deadlines, working in Southern Nigeria, and coordinating government, community-based, civil-society, and private-sector stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with integrity, results orientation, commitment to excellence, equality, openness, inclusiveness, collegiality, and resilience in difficult situations.
