Human Aware Interactions and Learning Intern (Robotics)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid, in-office role

Salary: $40–$58 per hour for Massachusetts-based roles

What you will do

• Research human-aware robot learning and human-robot interaction for general-purpose robots performing dexterous tasks.
• Develop working code prototypes and machine-learning approaches for multimodal policies, hierarchical reasoning, shared autonomy, and uncertainty-aware collaboration.
• Use large static datasets, collaborative demonstrations, human-human data, synthetic or semi-synthetic data, simulations, and real physical robots.
• Run informative experiments and user studies involving real robot hardware.
• Help build and maintain a new corpus of robot data and participate in publishing research at peer-reviewed venues.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Publication record at top-tier robotics or machine-learning conferences, including RSS, CoRL, ICRA, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ICCV, or HRI.
• Experience with machine learning and familiarity with large datasets, models, and benchmarks.
• Strong software development skills in Python. C++ experience is helpful but not required.
• Experience conducting user studies involving real robot hardware.
• Comfort with fast prototyping, running informative experiments, and working with existing large static datasets.
• Hardware experience, especially deploying learned policies on real robotic systems, is strongly preferred.
• Motivation to apply robotics to human needs and real-world impact.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with learned control for manipulation, including behavior cloning or reinforcement learning.
• Experience with interactive machine learning techniques that adapt robot policies based on human feedback or corrections.
• Experience with qualitative and quantitative user research, including user-study materials, IRB applications, facilitation, interviewing, PII management, and statistical analysis.
• System integration skills using state-of-the-art machine-learning tools and databases.
