Avionics Data Engineer - Payloads (Hypersonic)

Location: Mojave, California, United States; hybrid work may be considered for well-qualified candidates with at least 75% on-site time. Travel is estimated at less than 10%.

Base salary: Level I $86,000–$103,800; Level II $97,500–$120,000; Senior Level $120,000–$147,600 per year.

What you will do

• Evaluate experimental payload requirements and determine their suitability for integration onto hypersonic testbeds.
• Define and implement collection and recording of experimental payload data across multiple teams and subsystems.
• Develop, design, test, and operate instrumentation and telemetry systems for customer payloads.
• Develop and support instrumentation and telemetry tests, including bench and in-vehicle testing.
• Support the Talon-A Payload Integration Lead, customer technical reviews, and on-time contract deliverables.
• Analyze flight data, prepare customer reports, recommend workflow improvements, and travel as needed to support the program.

Requirements

• Experience in instrumentation, telemetry, or network engineering in an operational or regulated test environment.
• Experience with data acquisition systems and dataloggers.
• Experience working with government procurement processes.
• Experience writing system requirements or eliciting requirements effectively from customers.
• Experience designing test equipment for bench and in-vehicle testing of electronic assemblies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a DOW security clearance.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, including C, C++, C#, or Python; experience with source control systems such as Git; and fundamental experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and benchtop power supplies.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited program and 0–2 years of engineering experience for Level I, 2–5 years for Level II, or 5–10 years for Senior Level; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Nice to have

• Flight test program or Mission Control Room console experience.
• Experience designing and manufacturing aircraft harnesses.
• Aircraft or launch vehicle development or design experience in electrical, structures, or propulsion systems.
• Experience integrating and testing payloads on vehicles.
• Expertise with RF devices such as transmitters, receivers, and encoders/decoders.
• Experience with environmental qualification of electronic devices intended for flight vehicles.
• Hands-on aircraft build, piloting, or flight test experience.
• Active DOW TS/SCI security clearance.
• Experience with Curtiss-Wright or Safran Data Acquisition Units, NI LabVIEW, NI DAQmx, and requirements management tools such as Jama or DOORS.
