Senior DevOps Engineer (Trading)

Location: Chicago, United States

Base salary: $200,000–$250,000 USD per year, plus discretionary bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Operate and evolve Kubernetes platforms, including cluster lifecycle management with Cluster API, fleet-wide upgrades, bare-metal provisioning, CNI networking, storage, autoscaling, and disaster recovery planning.
• Operate and scale the on-premise observability platform using Mimir, Loki, Tempo, Grafana, OpenTelemetry Collector, and Alertmanager; onboard teams, build dashboards, tune alerts, and scale ingestion.
• Build and improve GitLab CI pipelines, ArgoCD-based Kubernetes deployments, Artifactory workflows, reusable CI components, and secrets integrations.
• Develop infrastructure automation, configuration management, and self-service tooling for teams across the firm.
• Onboard trading desks and development teams, write runbooks and documentation, and help establish a sustainable platform support model.

Requirements

• 5–8 years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering roles.
• Deep production Kubernetes experience, including cluster lifecycle management, troubleshooting, networking, storage, and RBAC.
• Production experience with Prometheus, Grafana, and alerting; familiarity with Mimir, Loki, Tempo, or Thanos; understanding of OpenTelemetry collectors, exporters, and instrumentation.
• Experience with ArgoCD, Flux, or similar GitOps tools; building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or equivalent; and artifact management with Artifactory, Nexus, or similar tools.
• Experience using Terraform and/or Ansible for provisioning and configuration management.
• Strong Linux fundamentals, including systemd, networking, storage, and performance troubleshooting.
• Go or Python experience for automation, tooling, and scripting; ability to read and write YAML and Helm charts.
• Ability to work directly with trading desks and development teams and explain Kubernetes concepts to non-specialists.

Nice to have

• Experience working at a trading firm and understanding the urgency and reliability requirements of P&L-impacting systems.
• Experience with Kubeflow, Airflow, or ML pipeline orchestration.
• Experience with advanced Kubernetes networking, including CNI plugins, network policies, or service mesh.
• Experience with Kafka or event-streaming platforms.
• Experience operating on-premise infrastructure, including bare-metal servers, IPAM, and storage systems.
• Thoughtful use of AI coding assistants and interest in AI-assisted operational tooling.
